Abstract
The year 2024 will be a time of political and institutional change in the European Union. This process will begin with the elections to the European Parliament on June 9. The European electoral call will mean not only the renewal of the political composition of the parliamentary institution, but also of the European Commission, whose new composition as the European executive will have to be established by November 1. Furthermore, coinciding with the European elections, the European Council will present the EU Strategic Agenda 2024-2029, which will define the main political priorities for the next five years. These include security and defense, energy, migration, resilience and competitiveness, global cooperation and enlargement. Meanwhile, the energy crisis and the geopolitical tensions generated by the war in Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza continue to determine the European agenda during this year 2024. With these perspectives of change and in an uncertain and complex geopolitical context, this miscellaneous issue 70/2024 of Deusto Journal of European Studies includes various contributions related to some of the current issues in the EU. This first issue of 2024 also includes the usual chronicles of jurisprudence and European current events signed by our faithful and valuable collaborators, David Ordóñez Solís y Beatriz Iñarritu.
