Author Guidelines

1. Content. The Deusto Journal of European Studies (DJES) journal deals with legal, economic, political, sociological and historical dimensions of the European integration process. It publishes two issues per year (April and October).

2. Submission of originals. Submissions must be original, not previously published elsewhere, and written in Spanish or in any other official language of the European Union. They may also be written in Basque. Articles must be submitted in Microsoft Word or a compatible format.

3. Format. The first page should include the title of the article, both in Spanish and in English; author’s name; academic affiliation and electronic address. The second page should provide a table of contents, two abstracts, one in Spanish and the other one in English, of around 200 words each, as well as key words (from three to five) in both Spanish and English.

4. Editing standards.

   - Length: up to 25 pages.

   - Font and size: Times New Roman 12

   - Footnotes: Times New Roman 10

   - Title of the article: Times New Roman 14, capital letters and bold type.

        • Example: ELECTRICAL ENERGY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

   - First level heading: Times New Roman 12, lower case and bold type.

        • Example: Energy policy in the EU

   - Second level heading: Times New Roman 12, lower case and italics.

        • Example: The EU position in international negotiations.

   - Contents

        • Example: Contents: I. Introduction.—II. Legal and institutional framework of environmental policies in the EU. 1. Institutional framework. 2. Legal framework—III. EU’s role in the international negotiations about the climate change. 1. EU’s position in the negotiations. 2. EC’s policies to face climate change. 2.1. Before the Maastricht reform. 2.2 After the Maastricht reform.—IV. Conclusions.

   - Paragraphs: single-spaced, justified, and indented.

        • Example:

        Sin embargo, este artículo hace comprender la ZEE no sólo la columna de agua suprayacente sino el lecho y el subsuelo de la marino, coincidiendo, en parte, con la plataforma continental, como luego veremos.
        ¿Estarían entre estas actividades económicas el almacenamiento de dióxido de carbono? En principio no parece que haya nada que lo impida…
   
   - Citations and references. Authors are required to format their citations and references using the ‘Notes and Bibliography’ system of the CMOS (Chicago Manual of Style), Spanish edition (Manual de estilo Chicago-Deusto).

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor-in Chief).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or a compatible format, and has been sent by email to estudios.europeos@deusto.es.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • Paragraphs are in Times New Roman single-spaced, justified, and indented.
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
